Professional Profile

Technical Manager

In my post as Technical Manager for the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies I work in partnership with strategic managerial staff in the Faculty and across the University to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and to deliver high quality services in a professional and efficient manner.

The variety and level of projects I manage range from internal Faculty technical team management for student facing services across a range of awards to planning and implementing key Faculty and University projects with Estates, Information Services, Campus Services, Personnel, academic colleagues along with external contractors and clients.

I have successfully managed many large projects which have involved computer and equipment replacement planning and significant space adjustments for award areas in the Faculty. I also meet with the Head of Estates and members of Executive to discuss and plan strategic projects relating to service provision and technical student services.

Whilst at Staffordshire University I have implemented change management strategies to support realignment of the four Faculty technical teams under my leadership. This has resulted in improved structure and skill sets to meet the changing requirements of the awards and academic delivery. These projects include key equipment and technical developments which are significant drivers in the resource planning process. These have all been delivered with consideration for continuous service improvement and resource planning.

I have the responsibility for the planning and resource provision across a wide range of technical areas which include craft and creative based studio and workshop areas as well as resourcing Mac and PC based student systems. The range of computer based systems in the Faculty cover the high end rendering PC devices through high specification Mac based design systems down to generic business delivery PC systems. In addition to the computer based devices the technical teams provide specialist technical support for awards including Broadcast Journalism, Radio, TV, Film, Photography, Animation, VFX, Ceramics, Product Design, Music, Computer Games and Fine Art specialist resources.

I apply relevant management and project planning techniques as required across the range of work under the technical support remit. This enables me to apply an appropriate level of support and management across the technical teams and through the Faculty Management Team to academic and administration colleagues.

I produce budget planning and resource strategies for Faculty financial budgeting relating to student and staff resources. I lead the Faculty investment planning for space and resource strategies and maintain a 3 year cycle of resources planning to align with the wider University strategies.
